Art Drop Denver

Yesterday, the first Tuesday of September, was Art Drop Day! It’s a day when local artists hide various pieces of art around the city, give clues on social media (#artdropdenver) and then people hunt and find it! Last year, we heard about this event with only a few days notice, but managed to drop a few little necklaces around the neighborhood and find one lovely little purple flower picture. With more advance notice this time (always the first Tuesday of September!) Sugarplum and I crafted a few things to drop and made plans to go scavenger hunting with friends!

It was a lot of fun doing art with my big girl – staying up late one night making mountain tissue paper pieces, doing nature walks to scavenge for pretty leaves and flowers for bracelets and learning all about the joys of Hobby Lobby together (girl is OBSESSED now). We dropped 2 mountain canvases and 4 bags of bracelets we made, and the boys had fun walking around the city and helping us find spots to drop and run.

Sadly, the hunt itself was pretty hard this year – pieces got taken within minutes with no heads up that they had been found. Nevertheless, we had a grand time with friends hiding the art and finding a few pieces! The best find was a collection of miniature scenes, created by the old Dolls & Miniature Museum. After multiple strike-outs, it was so nice to find one shady spot with multiple art pieces for our 4 kids to choose from. My kids chose a small fairy garden, a circus scene with an elephant and a little Heisman trophy winner (which Big Easy promptly tore out and ripped a foot off of).

All frustrations about the many misses aside, it was a super fun day of running around the city, hanging with friends and finding some cool things to take home! If you’re in the Denver area (although its worldwide, so check your local city) definitely plan on crafting or creating something next year. Join in the hunt – but please, tell the artist if you grab their piece!
